The security landscape for the upcoming Convention continues to evolve. Yet, there are many aspects surrounding safety during the week of July 18-21 that are known. The Secret Service, Cleveland Division of Police and other federal agencies are actively collaborating to lead security efforts and ensure the best possible experience for both visitors and locals.
The Convention is designated as a National Special Security Event (NSSE) given its high profile and size, and security efforts emulate those used for other NSSE events including presidential inaugurations, State of the Union speeches and the Super Bowl.
On May 5, approximately 100 agency leaders attended a conference at Cleveland State University’s Maxine Goodman Levin College of Urban Affairs to hear from Cleveland city officials and Convention planners about what the police presence will look like in July.
