Fuel Up

Convention Week is almost over! I don't know about you, but we're feeling the need for a little extra coffee this week. But don't worry--you're in Cleveland. We know how to make a good cup of Joe, and there are plenty of places to find it right in the center of the action downtown.

Up all night

Some of our local shops are out to win our hearts by staying open 24/7--and it's working. Bloom Bakery at 200 Public Square is one of them, and they serve some stellar baked goods to perk you up. If you're one of those "I only drink Starbucks" types, don't worry, they've also got your back. Two locations, one at the Hanna Building in Playhouse Square and one on West 6th St., are open around the clock, while stores at 200 Public Square and University Circle will be open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and the Tower City location is open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

  • Rising Star Coffee Roasters: Located in the historic Arcade building on Euclid Ave. across from East 4th St., Rising Star has a unique philosophy on their brew: "Our coffee is Relationship Coffee. We know who we buy coffee from, and we know what makes their coffee unique, and we want to share that with you." Open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mon.-Sat. and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sun.
  • Phoenix Coffee: Take a walk up East 9th St. to get to Phoenix Coffee, where they roast their coffee to order in small batches. Open this week Mon.-Fri. 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sat. 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Closed Sun.
  • Pour Cleveland: Right next to the 5th Street Arcades, Pour Cleveland is a great place to grab a cup of coffee and hold a quick meeting or just relax. Open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. this week.
  • A.J. Rocco's: Located on Huron Rd. and boasting a European-like patio, this is the place to go for an early morning coffee or a late night beer, as it's a cafe and a bar. We'll even keep your secret if you indulge in an Irish Coffee. Open 7 a.m. to midnight this week.
  • Tabu Coffee Co.: Head down East 6th St. to the Leader Building for a smoothie or locally-roasted espresso at Tabu. Open this week at 7:30 a.m., the store usually closes at 5 but says they will stay open up to 7 p.m. as business warrants.

If you need a fix while on East 4th St., Erie Island Coffee is the usual go-to for locals, but the store is closed this week as it's been rented by MSNBC. But, never fear! They have a stand set up just next door out on the street to serve the basics.

Here's wishing you a great, wide-eyed end to the week!
